Obedience
Obedience is another critical component of a hunting dog's training foundation. During obedience training, a dog is taught basic commands, such as sit, stay, come, heel, and down. These commands are essential for controlling the dog in the field and for keeping them safe.
Force Fetch
Force fetch is a training technique used to teach a dog to retrieve on command and to hold and deliver game to the handler's hand. During force fetch training, the dog is conditioned to understand that they must retrieve and deliver game, regardless of its size, shape, or texture. The dog is also trained to remain steady until released to retrieve, and to deliver the game to the handler's hand.
Introduction To Guns
Introduction to Guns: The first step in gun dog training is to introduce your dog to firearms. We do this gradually, starting with exposure to the sound of unloaded guns and working up to actual firing. Our trainers use positive reinforcement techniques to help your dog feel comfortable and confident around guns.
Marking
We teach gun dogs to mark downed birds or game, and to "handle" or follow directional cues to retrieve birds that have fallen outside of the dog's line of sight. This is a critical part of any gun dog's training as it allows them to find and retrieve game even in challenging conditions.
Steadiness
A good gun dog must be steady and remain in place until released to retrieve. We teach our gun dogs to sit or lie down on command and maintain that position until released. This helps to ensure that the dog remains focused on the task at hand and doesn't break from position, potentially flushing game.
Field Training
Once your dog has mastered the basics of gun dog training, we take them out into the field to practice their skills in a real-world hunting environment. Our trainers work closely with you to ensure that your dog is prepared for any hunting situation and can work effectively with you as a team.
